3200 Meter Run
North Marion's Emma Harrison led the field through the first lap in 1:15 with Frankfort's Katie Jan right on her shoulder. Oak Glen's Kelsey Chambers and Weir's Kristen Mastrantoni were right on the 1:16-1:17 bubble. I think the next two through were Philip Barbour's Brianna Waybright and Berkeley Spring's Kinsey Reed. On the 2nd lap, the pace slowed considerably, and the pack bunched up a little. Harrison remained in front with Jan staying right on her shoulder. The pair crossed in 2:41. Chambers was in 3rd at 2:42 with Mastrantoni about a stride behind in 2:43. Reed was right on Mastrantoni's shoulder also in 2:43. Waybright was running 6th in 2:44. The lead pack bunched up even more on the 3rd lap as the pace slowed even more. Harrison and Jan continued to lead, coming through at 4:11. Reed had moved into 3rd about a stride behind in 4:12 with Mastrantoni a stride behind her also in 4:12. Chambers was just ahead of Waybright as both crossed in 4:13. Things started to widen back out on lap 4. Harrison continued to lead with Jan on her shoulder, both crossing at 5:40. Reed held a slight margin over Mastrantoni with both at 5:41. They had opened a gap on Waybright, who had moved into 5th, and Chambers who was in 6th, both at 5:44. Waybright was about a step ahead of Chambers. The front 4 stayed together on lap 5 with Harrison, Jan, and Reed coming through at 7:11 and Mastrantoni at 7:12. Their gap on the rest of the field grew as Waybright continued to lead Chambers for 5th in 7:17 to Chambers' 7:18. On lap 6, Harrison and Jan finally started to create a gap on Reed and Mastrantoni. Harrison continued to hold the lead with Jan continuing to stay right on her shoulder with both crossing in 8:42. Reed remained ahead of Mastrantoni by less than a step with both crossing at 8:45. Waybright remained about a step ahead of Chambers with both crossing in 8:54. On the final stretch of lap 7, Jan made the move into the lead and quickly opened a 2 second gap with Jan crossing in 10:10 and Harrison in 10:12. Mastrantoni had generated a similar gap on Reed with Mastrantoni at 10:14 and Reed at 10:16. Chambers had moved around Waybright into 5th in 10:26 to Waybright's 10:28. On the final lap, Jan left no doubt as she powered away from the field to win by nearly 12 seconds in 11:26.78. Harrison held onto the 2nd spot with an 11:38.52. Mastrantoni kept 3rd at 11:41.39. Reed easily held the 4th spot in 11:43.79. Chambers held the 5th spot and Waybright maintained the 6th spot. The front 7 made it in under 12:00.
RunWV's Current Score: 31 of 36.

100 Meter High Hurdles
Summer's Emily Smith was the only one to crack the 16 second barrier in winning by over 0.4 seconds. Nicholas' Elizabeth Messer was in contention until a slight stumble over the next-to-last hurdle slowed her. She still held the second spot. 2nd, 3rd, and 4th were under 16.50.
RunWV's Current Score: 37 of 42.

300 Meter Low Hurdles
Frankfort's Bria Welker picked up a new event this year. And, of course, she won it. She actually trailed Keyser's Sharia Hernandez coming into the final straight, but she pulled away with relative ease to win by 1.42 seconds in 45.45. Hernandez held off Lincoln's Madison Cunningham and Fairmont Senior's Natalia Parker with Hernandez scoring a 46.87 and Cunningham nipping Parker by less than 0.01 as both clocked a 47.12.
RunWV's Current Score: 42 of 48.

4x100 Meter Relay
The North Marion crew of McKenzi Fisher, Marlee Angelucci, Alexis Hillberry, and Kaitlyn Conaway won convincingly, taking the win by nearly 0.6 seconds. They were the only team to come in under 51 seconds. Their 50.88 time is Tied for the 10th Best All-Time Class A-AA State Meet Performance. East Fairmont edged Bridgeport for 2nd as they were the only other teams under 52 seconds. 4th through 6th were separated by just 0.04 seconds with all three under 52.40. 7 teams were under 52.50.

4x400 Meter Relay
Oak Glen took the lead on the lead led of Megan Collins. Christen Mangano and Alex Arnott held it, and Alexis Burch put it away with a 58.7 anchor leg as the foursome won by over 6 seconds. Their 4:10.62 is the 10th Best All-Time Class A-AA State Meet Performance. Berkeley Springs got a big 3rd leg from Danielle Haynes to move from 5th to 2nd. There was a lot of shuffling on the final leg, but Berkeley Springs moved back into the 2nd spot. North Marion was 3rd. Frankfort moved from 6th to 4th on the anchor leg of Katie Jan. 2nd through 6th was a battle with the 5 teams all coming in withing 1.65 seconds of each other.

4x800 Meter Relay
Weir took the lead on a 2:27 lead leg from Kristen Mastrantoni. Oak Glen was running 2nd. Bridgeport was in 3rd. I think it might have been Webster was in 4th. After two legs, it was still Weir in command. Oak Glen remained in 2nd. I think it was Webster in 3rd with Bridgeport in 4th, Scott in 5th and Berkeley Springs in 6th. On the 3rd leg, Oak Glen took the lead from Weir, but Weir took it back in the last 100 to maintain their lead. Oak Glen remained in 2nd. Bridgeport remained in 3rd. Berkeley Springs had moved up to 4th. Scott remained in 5th, and Keyser had moved into 6th. The final leg became a duel between Weir's Alexis Virtue and Oak Glen's Kelsey Chambers. Chambers pulled even with Virtue on the backstretch of the final lap and again as they were coming out of the final turn, but Virtue fended her off and pulled away down the stretch. Her 2:21 leg secured the win for Weir. Chambers put together a very nice 2:23 leg of her own. Bridgeport and Berkeley Springs easily held onto the 3rd and 4th spots, respectively. Scott finished very solidly in 5th with Philp Barbour holding off the late charge of Webster for 6th. Weir's group of Kristen Mastrantoni, Chantelle Harper, Stephanie Pennacchio, and Alexis Virtue scored a 9:53.91 for the win. Oak Glen was also under 10:00 and Bridgeport made it in under 10:10.
RunWV's Current Score: 62 of 72.

Shuttle Hurdle Relay
Nicholas' quartet of Autumn Tyree, Elizabeth Messer, Shayla Stear, and Arianna Crawford got the win by a lot after a very close 2nd place finishing Keyser got hit with the dreaded DQ. Bridgeport scored a 2nd place finish from the 3rd heat. Nicholas was the only team under 1:07 with their 1:06.27. Bridgeport was the only other team under 1:08 with their 1:07.91. No one else was under 1:09. 3rd through 7th was decided by just 0.43 seconds. One of my predicted placers was disqualified.
RunWV's Current Score: 67 of 78

High Jump
Berkeley Spring's Sarah Haynes won the event for the 2nd year in a row and was the only competitor to clear 5'2. Only Fairmont Senior's Shania Riffle was able to clear 5'0 among the rest of the competitors. Only 5 in the event cleared 4'10.
RunWV's Current Score: 72 of 84.

Pole Vault
With only 6 competitors in the event, if you clear a height, you place. Fortunately, everyone cleared a height. Keyser's Allison Evans was the only vaulter to go higher than 8'0 with her 9'0 vault. Only Roane's Shania Lloyd was able to clear 8'0 among the rest of the field.
RunWV's Current Score: 78 of 90.

Long Jump
Four jumpers topped 16'0 with Liberty Harrison's Alexandria Allen taking the event with a leap of 16'9 1/4. Scott's Haylie Damron, Bridgeport's Kayla Haywood, and Nicholas' Autumn Tyree were the others to top 16'0. This was the incrediby rare occurrence in which all 6 of my predicted long jump placers actually placed.
RunWV's Current Score: 84 of 96.

Shot Put
Keyser's Kendra Johnson picked up the win with a toss of 34'7 1/2 to win by nearly a foot. No one else topped 34'. Only Bridgeport's Raina Young was able to throw 33'0 among the rest of the field. Only the 6 placers threw 31'.
RunWV's Current Score: 90 of 102.

Discus
Only two throwers topped 100' this year with Bridgeport Freshman Hannah McCall taking the event with a throw of 108'6. Keyser's Kendra Johnson was the other thrower to top 100' with her throw of 101'7.
RunWV's Current Score: 94 of 108.

The final score of 94 of 108 means that 87.0% of the people picked to place did indeed place. Congratulations to those that proved me wrong.
